How could I do this?

Okay, I know a tiny bit of HTML. I know fonts and tables and background colors-the HTML you learn from MySpace, lol. Anyway, I'm building my own site, and I want to know how I could make like a picture, and when you click on each part of the picture it takes you to a different part of the site. I don't mind if it's hard, but I can't spend money. I don't have any credit cards or a Paypal account. I'm using freewebs for my "website". lol.

You really need a web authoring program like Dreamweaver to create what you need, which is an image map, then paste the code that the program generates into your freewebs page. Since DW is $$$, try NVU at http://www.nvu.com. It's free, but I don't know if you can create image maps with it. I imagine that you can though.

opening a photo in MS Pain will give you the coordinate points in the bottom bar

it's a bit complex to explain all in a yahoo answer but despite that, it only takes perhaps 5 minutes at most to learn though it does get tedious. You'll obviously need an image editor and an HTML editor.. I recommend GIMP as the photoeditor (unless you have the money or ability to acquire photoshop) and Nvu as the HTML editor (once again, unless you can buy Dreamweaver). Both GIMP and Nvu are free and opensource, as well as being well known, supported and customizable (plugins and etc)

if you have photoshop and Image Ready, you can design an image in photoshop (keep the layers!) and then press ctrl+shift+m and open the image in Image Ready, then create "slices" of the photo and Image Ready will output HTML and different images.. Each image linking to somewhere else. It's how most sites do it since it's faster the image mapping and is a LOT more flexible

They're called image maps - there's a lot of generators out there that will make them for you. Here's one:

I'm pretty sure that what web developers do is take a picture, split it into pieces, and then assign a different link to each piece. It seems like one picture but behind the scenes it's actually a bunch put back together.

That's called an image map. You can do it with javascript. Type "image map" in any search box and you'll find what you need
